After being away for over a year, theater will be returning to Cape Charles.
On June 25 and 26, Arts Enter will be presenting William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer’s Night Dream. The play will be performed outdoors in Cape Charles Central Park. Both performances are at 8:00 PM, and both are free.
The performance is a hybrid mix of Arts Enter’s Broken Mirror Youth Players, Northampton Players, and theater alumni from Northstreet Playhouse in Onancock. All in all, it is a very strong cast for a very funny play.
The text was adapted by Wayne Creed, who also co-directs with Amy Watkins. Watkins has also choreographed all of the dance routines.
“Midsummer is a beautiful, but fairly difficult play to bring to life. We took the script and modernized a little bit of the language while keeping the full flavor of Shakespeare. All those wonderful and famous lines are spoken just as they were written by The Man,” Wayne Creed said.

On these magical nights, Central Park will be transformed into woods outside Athens where four runaway lovers find themselves in the middle of a dispute between the King and Queen of the fairies. Meanwhile, a troupe of amateur actors is trying to rehearse a play. Between these unlikely groups flies the wood sprite Puck, armed only with a wicked sense of humor and a love potion capable of making anyone fall for the first person they set eyes upon. What could possibly go wrong?
It will be a glorious way to spend a summer’s evening in beautiful Central Park. Bring blankets, lawn chairs, food and libations, and then sit back and enjoy one of Shakespeare’s most endearing works.
