For the last several months, the town has been reviewing code and ordinances. The Historic District Overlay has been the major focus. Town Council has held several work sessions and public hearings which have resulted in initial revisions to Article VIII. These revisions were adopted on June 17.
The Town has also engaged with the Virginal Department of Historic Resources, Certified Local Government office seeking guidance on the basic revision process.
Consensus of Town Council and the Town Manager is after following Article VIII revisions, the Town will need to hire a consultant to assist with rewriting the Historic District Design Guidelines.
Staff has issued an RFP, and so far, four proposals are being evaluated.
According to what has been gleaned from the proposal process, it may take longer to complete the town-wide zoning review than was originally anticipated.
