Newport News Shipbuilding’s Foundry team recently completed a pour of the first casting for Wisconsin – SSBN827 the U.S. Navy’s second Columbia-class submarine. these photos of the pour, which represent the beginning of sequential Columbia-class construction work that will span the next two decades.
The Columbia-class submarine, formerly known as the SSBN-X Future Follow-on Submarine, is a new class of nuclear submarines designed to replace the U.S. Navy’s Ohio-class ballistic missile submarines. USS Wisconsin (SSBN 827) will be the second named Columbia-class submarine.
