WASHINGTON, D.C. — House Armed Services Committee (HASC) Vice Chair Elaine Luria today issued the below statement following the passage of the FY 2022 (National Defense Authorization Act (S.1605):
“This defense budget that heads to the President’s desk strengthens the Hampton Roads economy, makes critical investments in our national defense, and takes important steps towards countering China. In the House, I was proud to lead a bipartisan effort to secure an additional $24 billion to the overall defense budget, which includes $27 billion for shipbuilding. I hope President Biden will sign this legislation without delay and that he uses the full weight of his office to help pass the defense appropriations bill. We cannot fund our national defense and deliver on our priorities through a series of continuing resolutions that do not enable full implementation of the provisions in the NDAA, including a pay raise for servicemembers. I urge my colleagues in the House and Senate to join me in ensuring our defense appropriations legislation is a top priority.”
Vice Chair Luria also helped secure $13 billion for Military Construction projects, including: $88.9 million for Naval Station Norfolk and $24 million for Joint Base Langley-Eustis.
