A long-time Washington Football fan purchased season tickets for the first time, and at the first home game of the season, a matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars on September 11, he won the 50/50 drawing held that day, noting he would soon receive a check for $14,000.
However, after a month without the expected check, he blasted the team on Twitter for “ghosting” him.
“Who am I supposed to talk to?” Shipley asked at one point. “Am I supposed to call [Washington owner] Dan Snyder myself?”
Due to all of the social media pressure, the Washington Team finally cut a check for $14,822 which arrived via FedEx on October 13. The fan then attempted to deposit it in his credit union account.
Unfortunately, four days later, the credit union called to inform him that the check had bounced and that he had been assessed a $15 penalty as a result.
Team officials confirmed the bad check, blaming it on a “bank error,” but they immediately made amends to Shipley for all their debts, including the $15 bounced check fee.
The fan described the experience as “underwhelming.”
