CAPE CHARLES, Va. – In a show of support for the Virginia American Revolution 250 Commission (VA250), the Town Council of Cape Charles plans to adopt a resolution to commemorate the 250th anniversary of Virginia’s role in American independence.
The resolution aims to strengthen the town’s partnership with VA250 and enable grant opportunities for local commemoration efforts. Cape Charles Main Street, headed by Executive Director Karen Zamorski, has taken the lead in forming a local VA250 committee to plan and coordinate various activities for the milestone anniversary.
Established in 2020, VA250 seeks to educate Virginians about their history and civic duty while sharing diverse narratives that capture the state’s complete story and its role in shaping the nation. The commission, established in the legislative branch of the state government, commemorates the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, the Revolutionary War, and the independence of the United States.
The Town Council’s resolution also recognizes the support of Sharon Silvey, manager of the Cape Charles Memorial Library, who has requested the town’s backing for the commemoration efforts.
