CAPE CHARLES, Va. — Virginia American Water (VAW) is set to upgrade water meters throughout Cape Charles as part of its ongoing commitment to providing reliable and high-quality service. The upgrades, starting this month, aim to enhance billing accuracy and offer customers more detailed information about their water usage.
In partnership with Keystone Utilities, VAW will transition from a manual water meter reading process to an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system. This technology allows meters to be read remotely, reducing the need for vehicles on the road and helping to lower the community’s carbon footprint.
The upgrade work has already begun at Myrtle Landing Apartments, formerly Heritage Acres, and will continue south along Washington Avenue into the historic district.
Residents should expect minimal service interruptions during the installation process, which typically takes less than an hour. After installation, users may notice brief spurts of air, water, or discoloration. Residents are advised to run cold water from the highest point in their homes until it runs clear.
