CAPE CHARLES, Va. — The Town of Cape Charles Treasurer has filed its final claim for reimbursement under a grant from the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS), funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), according to the town’s treasurer. The grant will cover the costs of upgrading the in-car computer terminals in police vehicles and purchasing electronic control devices, commonly known as tasers.
In addition, the town has been awarded a $4,000 risk grant from the Virginia Risk Sharing Association (VRSA), its insurance provider. The funds will be used to conduct an investigation into fire and emergency egress from the Town Hall building. Any remaining funds from the study will go toward implementing its safety recommendations.
The Cape Charles Finance Team has been busy with routine tasks, including preparing two months of treasurer’s reports for June and July. These reports will be presented at the upcoming Town Council meeting scheduled for September 19, 2024.
As the town continues to make strides in both public safety and operational efficiency, these grants play a vital role in supporting the town’s infrastructure and emergency preparedness efforts.
