CAPE CHARLES, Va.— The Cape Charles Planning & Zoning Department is wrapping up a comprehensive two-year review of the town’s Zoning Ordinance. The proposed text and map amendments, aimed at aligning the ordinance with the town’s current development goals, are scheduled for a public hearing, with all required notices, legal advertisements, and mailings completed. The updated zoning documents are now accessible online, and hard copies are being prepared for distribution to the Town Council, Planning Commission, and town staff, as well as for public reference.
Department staff have been fully engaged in meeting the legal deadlines for these communications, ensuring the public is informed and prepared for the upcoming hearing. The amendments cover both zoning regulations and map changes that could impact future development and land use in Cape Charles.
In addition, the Planning & Zoning Administrator, in partnership with Building Official Jeb Brady, has scheduled a training session on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Cape Charles Civic Center. This training, designed for contractors, builders, developers, and realtors, will focus on recent changes to the 2021 Building Code and key planning and zoning issues, including the Chesapeake Bay Act, tree permit requirements, Historic District regulations, and updated zoning forms and processes.
This session provides an opportunity for local stakeholders to stay current with regulatory updates that impact construction and development within the town. The training aims to ensure compliance and streamline project approval processes by increasing awareness of the latest building and zoning standards.
