CAPE CHARLES, Va. — The Cape Charles Historic District Review Board is scheduled to meet on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 5:00 p.m. to review several Certificate of Appropriateness applications for proposed modifications and new construction within the Historic District. The meeting will address six applications that involve renovations, replacements, and new builds for properties across Cape Charles.
The agenda includes the following applications:
- 508 Harbor Avenue: The applicant seeks approval to renovate the exterior of a two-story single-family dwelling, contributing to the preservation and enhancement of the neighborhood’s historic character.
- 406 Randolph Avenue: This application proposes the removal of existing metal doors, to be replaced with fiberglass doors. Additionally, the applicant seeks to replace front porch wood columns and balustrades and repair the west side roof eave trim on the two-story dwelling.
- 629 Tazewell Avenue: The homeowner is requesting approval to install shutters on the front windows of the two-story single-family dwelling, aiming to add a historic touch to the home’s facade.
- 602 Washington Avenue (After-the-Fact Approval): An after-the-fact application for approval has been submitted for a side outdoor shower and gutters added to the side deck. The applicant also plans to install lattice around the porches of the single-family dwelling.
- Tax Map #83A3-1-32 on Monroe Avenue: A proposal has been submitted to construct a new two-story, 1,040-square-foot single-family dwelling. The new construction will need to align with the Historic District’s architectural standards.
- Tax Map #83A3-1-420 on Tazewell Avenue: Another application proposes a new one-and-a-half-story, 1,072-square-foot single-family dwelling. Like other new builds, this property will be expected to meet historic district guidelines to preserve the town’s architectural heritage.
Residents and stakeholders are encouraged to attend the meeting at the Cape Charles Civic Center to learn more about the proposed projects and to provide input. The Historic District Review Board will evaluate each application for its compatibility with the historic character of the surrounding area, ensuring that Cape Charles’ unique heritage is maintained as the town continues to grow and evolve.
