CAPE CHARLES, Va.— The Cape Charles Harbor is set for a series of updates and improvements, according to Harbormaster reports.
The first phase of the harbor boardwalk reconstruction is moving forward, with the Invitation for Bids (IFB) finalized and posted. Meanwhile, bathhouses at the harbor are receiving maintenance, including plumbing repairs and a deep cleaning scheduled for next week.
Efforts to enhance the harbor’s amenities continue, as the Harbormaster has reached out to vendors for quotes on branded apparel for the ship store. Additionally, a new annual slip has been leased to a Cape Charles resident for the 2025-2026 season.
Preparations for upcoming events are also underway. The Harbormaster is working closely with the Broad Bay Sailing Association on their 2025 Regatta and Awards Ceremony. In another development, a rough count of deck boards in need of replacement has been completed, with lumber quotes currently being sought.
Cleanup efforts remain a priority, with crews dedicated to tidying up the area outside the dock office and along the docks. In terms of new business, discussions have taken place with the owner of the “Paddle Boat” tour operation about dockage and launching tours from Cape Charles Town Docks. The proposed schedule includes a family-friendly dolphin-watching tour at noon and an evening happy-hour and sunset cruise at 5 or 6 p.m. A follow-up meeting is scheduled for Monday.
Further engagement with the community continues, as the Harbormaster recently met with Karen from Cape Charles Main Street and will attend the upcoming Main Street Connect meeting next month. Another meeting between the two is planned soon to discuss collaborative efforts.
With infrastructure upgrades, new business opportunities, and community engagement on the agenda, Cape Charles Harbor is poised for an active and productive season.
