CAPE CHARLES, Va. — The results of the 2024 Community Strategic Planning Survey have been compiled and were presented to the Cape Charles Town Council during a work session on February 6, 2025. The findings, now available on the Town Manager’s Community Strategic Plan page, provide insight into the community’s priorities and aspirations.
A strategic plan serves as a flexible framework tailored to meet a community’s specific needs. It can aid in implementing an existing comprehensive plan or guide the development of future updates. Designed as a living document, the Cape Charles Community Strategic Plan is structured to evolve with the town’s changing priorities.
The plan begins by outlining the core values and ideals that define Cape Charles, forming the foundation for a community-wide vision. This vision sets long-term objectives and identifies the desired characteristics of the town’s future development.
To realize this vision, the plan establishes discrete, measurable goals that serve as benchmarks for progress. While these goals remain consistent over time, the strategies employed to achieve them—referred to as objectives—are dynamic and adaptable. These objectives are designed as practical, affordable actions that the town can integrate into its annual work plans. As existing objectives are accomplished, new ones may be introduced to ensure continuous progress.
Future updates to the Community Strategic Plan will incorporate feedback from the town’s boards and commissions, community organizations, and the general public. Public validation of the plan will be essential to securing the authority needed for its successful implementation.
