CAPE CHARLES, Va. – The Town of Cape Charles is taking steps to strengthen oversight of short-term rentals (STRs) with the development of a new Rental Inspector and Enforcement Officer position. According to the town’s Planning and Zoning Department, a draft job description has been created and is currently under review by Human Resources and the Town Manager.
The creation of this role comes as the town continues to address concerns related to STRs, including compliance with zoning regulations and neighborhood impacts. The Rental Inspector and Enforcement Officer is expected to be responsible for ensuring that STR operators adhere to local ordinances, conducting inspections, and addressing violations.
In addition to enhancing STR enforcement, the town is also advancing efforts to improve municipal operations with new agenda management software. The kick-off call for implementing the software has been rescheduled to Monday, February 24, 2025. This system is expected to streamline the preparation and distribution of town meeting agendas, increasing transparency and efficiency in local government operations.
As Cape Charles continues to refine its approach to STR oversight and administrative processes, further updates on the Rental Inspector position and software implementation will be provided in the coming weeks.
