CAPE CHARLES, Va. — The Town of Cape Charles has canceled the Beachfront Master Plan public information sessions originally scheduled for Saturday, March 1, and Wednesday, March 5, 2025. New dates for the sessions have yet to be determined, town officials announced.
The town has been collaborating with consulting firm VHB over the past year to develop a Beachfront Master Plan. The plan encompasses key areas, including the dunes, fishing pier, Bay Avenue, the area surrounding the LOVE sign, and public restrooms. A committee composed of various stakeholders has been working alongside the consultants to shape the initial concepts.
To gather public input, a virtual meeting room (VMR) was launched in September 2024, allowing residents to review proposed concepts and provide feedback. Following the VMR solicitation, an in-person public input session was held on October 3, 2024, where community members discussed the proposals and shared their opinions. Later that month, on October 23, the Town Council convened for a work session with consultants and staff to review the feedback and develop a consensus on priority elements for the beachfront.
In response to the input received, the consulting team revised the conceptual plan, which was subsequently reviewed by the Town Council during a work session on January 15, 2025.
Town officials have not provided a reason for the session cancellations but stated that updated dates for public participation will be announced in the future.
