CAPE CHARLES, Va. — The Town of Cape Charles is making progress on several capital projects, though weather-related delays have slowed work on a key harbor rehabilitation effort.
According to the Capital Projects Manager, construction of the Strawberry Street sidewalk on the west side of the park has been completed and passed its final inspection by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).
Meanwhile, coordination continues on the outstanding easement required for the construction of the KW 1&2 pipelines, with discussions ongoing between the Canonie Atlantic general manager and the Virginia and Maryland Railroad Company project manager.
Harbor-related projects remain a key focus, with officials meeting to review ongoing repairs and capital plans for the next fiscal year. However, Phase 3 of the Inner Harbor Bulkhead Rehabilitation project has been delayed due to recent weather conditions. Construction is expected to resume next week.
In addition, the town has finalized a contract for Phase 1 of the Harbor Boardwalk Reconstruction project, which has been sent to the contractor for signing.
Progress is also being made on the Library Redevelopment project, with coordination between the town attorney and the developer leading to a finalized property closing. Work on the redevelopment is expected to begin in about two weeks.
Officials continue to monitor project timelines and will provide updates as work advances.
