CAPE CHARLES, Va. — Cape Charles officials reported progress on a range of capital projects, including major waterfront and redevelopment efforts.
The town finalized its final Aid to Local Ports grant reimbursement request to the Virginia Port Authority for Phase 3 of the Inner Harbor Bulkhead Rehabilitation. Officials said the project marks a significant step in improving the harbor’s infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Phase 1 of the Harbor Boardwalk Reconstruction project has moved forward, with the contractor’s billing reviewed and approved for payment. Town officials noted the new section of the boardwalk “looks great” and praised the early results.
In downtown Cape Charles, redevelopment work at the Library Building also gained momentum. The mayor signed closing documents for the sale of three properties tied to the project, and internal demolition on the third floor is complete. Demolition has now begun on the rear mezzanine, officials said.
Elsewhere, the Town Manager signed a contract to construct a new sidewalk on Fig Street next to the New Roots Youth Garden. Work is expected to begin next week.
In addition to these construction projects, town leaders participated in a Council executive session to discuss the possible sale of town-owned property. They also met with an architectural consultant to explore several potential sites for a new municipal building.
