CAPE CHARLES, Va. — Cape Charles police responded to 94 calls for service during July, while officers also issued nearly 100 traffic summonses and made five misdemeanor arrests, according to the department’s latest monthly law enforcement statistics.
The Cape Charles Police Department reported no felony arrests during the month and five misdemeanor arrests. Officers issued 98 traffic summonses and 98 parking tickets.
Police also conducted 100 building checks and logged 68 foot patrols as part of the department’s general law enforcement activity.
The department reported five arrests or custody actions during July. A male subject was arrested July 7 on a hit-and-run charge, and another male was arrested that same day on a DUI charge. A male subject was arrested for DUI on July 9, while a female was arrested for being drunk in public on July 11.
On July 21, police reported that a male subject was taken into custody in connection with an emergency protective order, or EPO.
Weekly Calls Include Accidents, Stolen Golf Cart
The department’s latest weekly report showed officers responding to a wide range of calls, from traffic accidents and alarms to domestic disputes and suspicious activity.
Among the incidents were four vehicle accidents, two 911 hang-up calls, two EMS assists, two vehicle lockouts and two calls to assist the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office.
Police also responded to reports of a stolen golf cart and later a recovered golf cart. The report did not provide additional details about whether the two incidents were connected.
Other calls included an open business door, a residential alarm, a hold-up alarm, trespassing, a verbal altercation, threats by phone, a possible violation of a protective order, a domestic dispute, a welfare check, a suspicious person and a suspicious vehicle.
Officers also handled a warrant service, a curfew violation, an emergency custody order, citizen assistance calls and an accidental overdose.
Several calls involved issues beyond traditional criminal enforcement. Police responded to an open manhole cover, a dog on the beach and a report of a boat in an exclusion zone.
The department’s weekly statistics also include routine activities such as building checks, traffic enforcement, code violations and foot patrols.
The July figures provide a snapshot of police activity during one of Cape Charles’ busiest periods of the year, when the town typically sees increased vehicle, pedestrian and recreational traffic associated with the summer season.
