CAPE CHARLES, Va. — The Town of Cape Charles will begin sending out late notices to residents who have not paid their personal property taxes, according to a notice from the town’s Finance Department.
Delinquent taxpayers have 60 days from the date of the notice to either pay the outstanding balance or establish a payment plan. Failure to respond may result in the placement of DMV stops, which would block the renewal of vehicle registration(s) until the taxes are paid in full.
Town officials emphasized that staff are available to assist with questions and can accept payments by phone, credit card, or other methods. Residents with outstanding balances are encouraged to contact the Finance Department at (757) 331-3259, extensions 26 or 23, for assistance.
The measure aims to increase compliance and ensure the town receives revenue critical for local services.
Personal property taxes are as illegal as you can get . This back door screwing of tax payers needs to be stopped. This commonwealth mentality is ridiculous was carried over from WHO Thats right ENGLAND. Isn’t that the country we parted ways with because of this type of taxing . Most states DO NOT have a Personal Property Tax . You know why ? The people who would impose such a tax ( taxing because you own ) would be literally run out of that state .
Most states do have personal property tax. If I counted correctly, 43 states have personal property tax.
