The Eastern Shore Hazard Mitigation Plan identifies policies and actions that can be taken over time to reduce losses from natural and hazards, as well as those created by –or helped along – by humans. These preventive actions protect our community – our friends, family, employees, neighbors, business owners, and their properties. They reduce exposure to risk and curb financial losses. With support from the Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the A-NPDC is facilitating this process with localities, agencies, organizations, and stakeholders in our region.
Please take a moment to respond to the A-NPDC Hazard Mitigation Plan Survey
In partnership with local governments, the Accomack-Northampton Planning District Commission (A-NPDC) is in the process of updating the region’s Hazard Mitigation Plan. This plan is intended to:
- Address and identify risks associated with flooding issues and other natural and human caused hazards
- Assess how these issues may be increasing and/or evolving,
- Identify steps and actions the region can take to improve the resilience and preparedness of the Region and its residents, businesses, and property owners, and
- Make your county eligible for disaster relief grant funding.
A critical component to the plan development process is input from members of the community, especially those who live and work in the region. Accordingly, this public survey has been written to solicit your input and perspectives on existing hazard issues, including flooding, that impact your community.

For any questions/comments, or if you would like more information on the development of these plans, please contact the Planning District Commission or their consultant, Berkley Group:
