CAPE CHARLES, Va. — The Cape Charles Historic District Review Board held a special meeting on Tuesday, June 17, where members reviewed several applications for Certificates of Appropriateness related to construction and renovation projects within the town’s historic district.
At 209 Monroe Avenue, the Board denied a request to remove an exterior chimney. While the applicant was permitted to remove the inner flue and other interior components, the Board ruled that the chimney itself must remain in place and may only be capped. The decision reflects the town’s ongoing efforts to preserve defining architectural features within the historic district.
The Board approved an application at 425 Randolph Avenue to renovate an existing rear accessory structure and replace the fencing. The renovation will enhance the property while maintaining its historic character.
Another application at 601 Tazewell Avenue was also approved, allowing for the construction of a side addition and ramp to the one-story building. The modification is intended to improve accessibility and functionality.
Finally, the Board granted approval for new construction on an undeveloped parcel identified as Tax Map #83A1-1-104 on Washington Avenue. The proposal includes a new single-family dwelling and a rear outdoor shower.
