CHINCOTEAGUE, Va. — Bird enthusiasts and curious nature lovers are invited to Toms Cove on Saturday, July 19, 2025, for a special guided bird walk hosted by the National Park Service, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, and the Eastern Shore Master Naturalists.
The free event, scheduled from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m., offers an opportunity to explore the rich coastal habitats of the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge and spot a variety of summer shorebirds, wading birds, gulls, and terns. Organizers say July is an ideal time to view and learn to identify these often confusing but fascinating species.
The walk is geared toward beginner to intermediate birders of all ages, and even those new to birdwatching are welcome. Participants are encouraged to bring binoculars and a field guide, though loaner equipment will also be available.
