CAPE CHARLES, Va. — Delegate Robert S. Bloxom announced this week that the Eastern Shore will receive over $1.85 million in grants and loans through the Virginia Community Flood Preparedness Fund (CFPF), a program administered by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation.
The funding will support flood mitigation and planning projects across Accomack and Northampton counties, aimed at strengthening local infrastructure and boosting long-term community resilience in the face of rising flood risks.
“I am proud to announce these targeted investments on the Eastern Shore,” said Delegate Bloxom. “Flooding remains one of our region’s most persistent and costly challenges. These projects will help strengthen our communities, improve local planning, and protect vital assets.”
The funding breakdown is as follows:
- Town of Wachapreague: $50,000
- Accomack County: $55,600
- Hampton Roads Sanitation District (Onancock Wastewater Treatment Plant): $374,400
- Northampton County: $1,373,998
The total awarded to the region amounts to $1,853,998.
The CPF Fund, established in 2020, is designed to support localities in planning for and implementing flood protection projects, especially in vulnerable and underserved communities. This round of funding highlights the state’s ongoing commitment to coastal resilience and infrastructure adaptation along the Eastern Shore.
