CAPE CHARLES, Va. — Local standout athlete Rylee Coates, a senior at Northampton High School, has officially committed to continue both her academic and athletic career at the University of Delaware.
Coates, a star of the Yellow Jackets’ track and field program, celebrated the milestone with her parents, Greg and Kim Coates, by her side. She described the moment as “beyond excited,” calling the chance to join the Blue Hens next year a dream come true.
Known for her strong work ethic and leadership on and off the track, Coates has become one of Northampton’s most accomplished student-athletes. Her decision to compete at the Division I level marks a significant achievement not only for her but for the Eastern Shore athletic community, which has watched her rise through local and regional competitions.
Coaches and supporters say Coates’ commitment reflects years of dedication, discipline, and passion for her sport — qualities that they expect will continue to shine at Delaware.
She will join the Blue Hens in fall 2026, where she plans to pursue her studies while competing in track and field at the collegiate level.
