Project targets four intersections along the town’s beachfront, with contractor bids due November 16.
CAPE CHARLES, Va. — The Town of Cape Charles is seeking contractors to remove bark vegetation from sand dunes at four intersections along Bay Avenue, a popular waterfront corridor bordering the town’s public beach.
The town has issued an Invitation for Bids (IFB) for vegetation removal at the intersections of Mason Avenue, Randolph Avenue, Tazewell Avenue, and Madison Avenue with Bay Avenue.
The proposed work will take place in areas where the town’s street grid meets the beachfront dunes. The public notice does not specify the amount of vegetation to be removed, the methods contractors must use, or whether the work is related to beach access, dune maintenance, or other improvements.
Four Beachfront Locations Identified
The project covers sand dune areas at the following intersections:
- Mason Avenue and Bay Avenue
- Randolph Avenue and Bay Avenue
- Tazewell Avenue and Bay Avenue
- Madison Avenue and Bay Avenue
Sand dunes are an important part of Cape Charles’ waterfront environment, helping protect the shoreline from erosion and coastal flooding. Vegetation can play a significant role in stabilizing dunes by holding sand in place.
The town’s solicitation does not indicate whether the proposed removal will affect dune-stabilizing vegetation or whether additional restoration measures are planned. Those details may be addressed in the project’s bid specifications.
Bids Due November 16
Contractors interested in the project must submit sealed bids to Cape Charles Town Hall, located at 412 Tazewell Avenue, Cape Charles, Virginia 23310.
The submission deadline is 11 a.m. on Monday, November 16, 2026. All bids received by the deadline will be publicly opened and read aloud.
Bids submitted after the deadline will be returned unopened.
Contractors can obtain the Invitation for Bids package from the town’s official website at www.capecharles.org, under the “Bid Opportunities” section, or pick up a copy in person at Town Hall.
The Town of Cape Charles reserves the right to reject any or all bids and to waive irregularities and informalities as permitted by applicable law.
The public notice does not provide an estimated project cost, anticipated start date, or completion schedule.
The proposed vegetation removal is expected to draw interest from residents concerned with the maintenance and protection of Cape Charles’ beachfront, particularly given the importance of the sand dunes to the town’s coastal environment.
