The Cape Charles Finance Department is looking for a team player with strong customer service skills, attention to detail, and a solid grasp of basic accounting to develop and implement systems for accounting of Short-Term Rentals and business licensing. This role works closely with the public, so a friendly and professional approach is important. This is a full-time non-exempt position with an excellent benefit package, including state retirement, life, disability, and paid leave including State holidays.
Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Act as the primary intermediary between the Town’s businesses and the Town with regard to assisting businesses in filing Business, Profession and Occupation License (“BPOL”) applications
- Meeting and greeting citizens, taking payments, and assisting them with questions
- Create and remove DMV stops
- Process tax bill payments (STR, BPOL, personal and real estate)
- Assist with software tax bill uploads
- Create and maintain taxpayer accounts and records
- Perform a wide variety of software-related tasks, including but not limited to, importing data between software platforms and producing reports
- Administrative tasks and data entry as it relates to recording transactions and/or reconciling accounts
- Special projects assigned by the Treasurer/Assistant Treasurer
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to interface with a diverse customer base
- Strong math skills and some accounting experience and/or having taken accounting classes
- Ability to be detail-oriented and willing to learn the Town’s software
- The ability to multi-task as well as prioritize work
- Ability to work independently as well as on a team
- Willingness to take classes and attend training
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Salary range is from $20-$21/hour based on education, experience and qualifications. This position is eligible for overtime.
