CAPE CHARLES, Va. (AP) — The Cape Charles Town Council is moving closer to selecting a permanent location for downtown public restrooms, after being briefed on three potential options and agreeing in principle on basic terms.
Town staff presented council members with three alternatives: constructing town-owned restrooms on leased land, leasing space at 11 Peach Street, or leasing space at 7 Strawberry Street. According to town officials, the council has reached consensus on the general terms associated with the options.
Staff are now preparing a formal recommendation and supporting staff report, which is expected to be ready for council review in early January. Council approval would authorize moving forward with the appropriate lease agreement and next steps toward establishing a permanent downtown restroom facility.
The issue has been a longstanding concern in Cape Charles, particularly during peak tourist seasons, as officials look to balance visitor needs with downtown infrastructure and long-term planning goals.
