CAPE CHARLES, Va. —Cape Charles residents have raised concerns about the condition of the town’s Public Works Yard, describing it as an eyesore due to debris and visible damage.
According to town officials, complaints cited packing peanuts scattered across the yard, broken windows, and a section of fencing that was reportedly struck by a garbage truck. Residents expressed frustration over the appearance of the area, which is visible to the public.
In response, Public Works staff noted that the site serves as a public trash drop-off area for residents, limiting the department’s control over what materials are deposited and where they are placed. Town staff also clarified that any issues involving Davis Disposal — including damage caused by garbage trucks — must be addressed directly with the waste management company.
Public Works reported that staff made an effort to clean up the packing peanuts, which were identified as having been improperly discarded by a resident.
Town officials emphasized that while Public Works works to maintain the site, cooperation from residents is essential to keep the area orderly and to ensure proper disposal of materials.
