CAPE CHARLES, Va. — According to a report from Cape Charles Main Street, a fall social media marketing campaign promoting Cape Charles as a weekend getaway helped drive strong engagement and visibility during the town’s traditionally slower tourism season, according to campaign results released this week.
The campaign, which ran from September through December, focused on highlighting seasonal events — particularly the town’s popular Festive Fridays held throughout the holiday season — with the goal of keeping Cape Charles top of mind for both local residents and potential visitors.
Town officials said the effort generated steady momentum as events approached, creating sustained awareness and online interaction in the months leading into winter.
According to campaign data, the advertisements recorded 98,179 impressions, representing the total number of times the content appeared on users’ screens. The campaign reached 43,235 unique users, while 4,746 landing page views were logged when viewers clicked through social media posts or ads for additional information.
Marketing officials said the results indicate the campaign met its primary objective of maintaining consistent visibility for Cape Charles during the off-season, a period when many coastal communities see a decline in visitor traffic.
“Overall, this was a solid campaign that supported attendance and awareness for a much-loved community tradition,” the report stated.
In addition to online engagement, organizers noted increased regional media attention tied to the town’s “Weekend Getaway” messaging, suggesting the campaign may have contributed to broader exposure beyond paid advertising channels.
Festive Fridays, which feature live music, extended shopping hours, and seasonal programming in the historic downtown district, remain a key component of Cape Charles’ strategy to support local businesses and encourage year-round tourism.
Officials said similar digital outreach efforts may be considered in future seasons as the town continues to promote off-peak travel and community events.
