Two weeks of hands-on, low-pressure art exploration for kids — painting, sculpture, printmaking, and more
Bellhaven, Va — ESO Arts Center is proud to announce ART Summer Camp 2026, a two-week creative experience for young artists designed and led by local artist and educator Madison Pollihan. The camp offers a fun, low-pressure environment where kids can explore a wide range of artistic materials, develop new skills, and collaborate with peers.
Camp details
- Dates: Two consecutive weeks, Summer 2026
- Hours: Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
- Please pack a lunch each day
About the program
The camp’s philosophy centers on letting kids try lots of different materials, keeping things fun and low-pressure, and mixing guided projects with free creativity. Each day follows a consistent, predictable structure that allows campers to settle in and feel comfortable.
Daily schedule:
- 9:00 – 9:30 AM – Arrival and easy warm-up (drawing, clay, etc.)
- 9:30 – 10:45 AM – Main project — the “big” activity of the day
- 10:45 – 11:00 AM – Snack break
- 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM – Second activity (lighter or skill-based)
- 12:00 – 12:45 PM – Lunch and outside time
- 12:45 – 1:30 PM – Choice time (stations, building, drawing)
- 1:30 – 2:30 PM – Afternoon activity (relaxed, sometimes group-based)
- 2:30 – 3:00 PM – Clean-up and quick share
Week 1: Explore & Experiment
Goal: Keep it exciting and introduce lots of materials.
- Monday: Painting, color mixing, and a group mural
- Tuesday: Drawing, characters, and comics
- Wednesday: Collage and mixed media
- Thursday: Clay and simple sculpture
- Friday: Famous artist-inspired art
Week 2: Create & Build
Goal: More interaction and collaboration.
- Monday: Dot painting, papel picado, and printmaking
- Tuesday: Art and science experiments
- Wednesday: Masks and character design
- Thursday: Cardboard group build (city, zoo, etc.)
- Friday: Art stations, wearable art, and a fun wrap-up
Registration
Families can register for ART Summer Camp 2026 online. If it has been more than 12 months since your last registration with ESO Arts Center, a new registration form for the 2026/2027 year is required. Registration is available at:
