BERLIN, Md. — Classical music will once again take center stage on the Eastern Shore when the annual Chamber Music by the Sea Festival returns Aug. 9–15, bringing internationally recognized musicians to venues across Berlin and Snow Hill for a week of concerts, educational programs and community events.
The festival will feature violinist Elena Urioste, pianist Tom Poster, cellist Kyle Armbrust, violist Michelle Barzel Ross, violinist Caitlin Lynch, and violist Tony Rymer, performing works by composers including Johannes Brahms, Felix Mendelssohn, Ludwig van Beethoven, Antonín Dvořák, and Joaquín Turina.
The week begins on Sunday, Aug. 9, with a 2 p.m. Musical Stroll through downtown Berlin, where visitors can enjoy surprise musical performances throughout the town.
Programming continues throughout the week with a mix of rehearsals, concerts and educational outreach:
- Monday, Aug. 10
- 10:30 a.m. – Free open rehearsal at the Berlin Public Library.
- 7 p.m. – Sound Bath Collaboration at Zenna Wellness.
- Tuesday, Aug. 11
- 7 p.m. – Concert and reception at Bishop’s Stock Art Gallery in Snow Hill, featuring works by Michele Rose and other composers.
- Wednesday, Aug. 12
- 10:30 a.m. – Free family concert at the Berlin Public Library.
- Noon–1:30 p.m. – Musicians’ Open Workshop at the library, open to adults and children.
- 7 p.m. – Evening concert at the Historic Atlantic Hotel featuring music by Brahms, Mendelssohn and others.
- Thursday, Aug. 13
- 7 p.m. – Concert and reception at Temple Bat Yam with music by Dvořák, Turina and more.
- Friday, Aug. 14
- 7 p.m. – Concert at All Hallows Episcopal Church in Snow Hill featuring works by Beethoven, Brahms and additional composers.
The festival concludes on Saturday, Aug. 15, with an 11 a.m. free outdoor concert at the Taylor House Museum, offering audiences a selection of surprise musical performances.
In addition to presenting world-class chamber music, the festival places a strong emphasis on community engagement through free rehearsals, educational workshops and family programming designed to introduce audiences of all ages to classical music.
The event is sponsored by several regional organizations, including the Paul M. Angell Family Foundation, Worcester County Education Foundation, Bishop’s Stock, The Hotel Atlantic, Art League of Ocean City, The Calvin B. Taylor House Museum, Mermaid Museum, and Reverie Arbor & Wine Bar.
Festival organizers encourage residents and visitors to attend one or more performances throughout the week and experience chamber music in a variety of intimate Eastern Shore venues.
