What a TOTAL PERVERSION of the English language it is to call ending the lives of unborn children a “reproductive right” where in OUR language, the word “reproductive” is an adjective relating to or effecting reproduction, as in “the female reproductive system” which does not have built into it the means of ending the process by aborting or ejecting the unborn fetus, which it would have IF abortions were in fact a reproductive “right.”
Given abortions are effected by external means, it logically follows that an abortion is a “reproductive right.”
What this really is, is stated quite well in the last sentence to wit: the importance of electing pro-abortion rights champions to Congress who will work to protect abortion nationwide.
EXCEPT CONGRESS CANNOT DO THAT BECAUSE IT IS A MATTER FOR EACH STATE TO DECIDE, GIVEN THE CONSTITUTION GRANTS CONGRESS ZERO POWER TO PROTECT ABORTION NATIONWIDE.
Which should have said “Given abortions are effected by external means, it logically follows that an abortion is NOT a ‘reproductive right.’”
And then, in a New York Post article titled “Tim Walz fesses up to ‘misspeaking’ on ‘shooters,’ China, IVF but doubts ‘people care’” by Ryan King on 6 October 2024, we had DEMOCRAT Tim Walz telling us as follows:
“The vice president and I have been clear, the restoration of Roe v. Wade is what we’re asking for.”
Well, Timmy, guess what, dude – in concurring in Roe v. Wade in 1973, Mr. Chief Justice Burger stated in plain and simple language that even dull-wits like yourself and Kamala Harris, herself a real, honest-to-gosh hotshot lawyer, and Missy and the Democrats should be able to comprehend and understand, as follows:
Plainly, the Court today rejects any claim that the Constitution requires abortions on demand.
end quote
There you go, Timmy, can you comprehend that?
And Timmy, the Constitution does not prohibit the citizens of each State from regulating or prohibiting abortion.
THAT IS KNOWN AS DEMOCRACY!
HOW COME YOU HATE DEMOCRACY, TIMMY?
Maybe you should stand down. This seems to be a little out of your league.
‘… as in “the female reproductive system” which does not have built into it the means of ending the process by aborting or ejecting the unborn fetus, which it would have IF abortions were in fact a reproductive “right.”
Have you not heard the term ‘still-birth”? How about the term “miscarriage” Thank god your birthing years are long over. You don’t have a horse in this race.
All should get ready for the off topic response from Paul
And what a pleasure it was for Americans of all ages, races and creeds to tune in here this morning to be greeted not so much with actual sunshine itself, but instead, another version of sunshine in the form of a post by our favorite poster J Wheaton, breaking up the otherwise somber mood of the day with some much needed jocularity and levity and verbal pratfalls as only our J Wheaton can produce them in such quantity in so few words.
Hi, J Wheaton!
And to help you out to the degree that I am able to in here, J Wheaton, given the harm previously done to your mind by a failed education system in this country that turns out ******* idiots who don’t know anything like Tim Walz, who the Democrats are running for vice president, if you can believe that mockery, the term “abortion” as we in this country who have an education would use it is a noun that is defined as “the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy.”
Note the words “deliberate,” which means “done consciously and intentionally” and “termination,” which means in this context “the action of bringing something to an end,” that being in this case, the life of an unborn child, which could have been you, J Wheaton, if your parents had exercised their right to terminate you, and we will leave off with arguing the benefits to society if they had so exercised the right, as you call it, to0 rid themselves of you while still a fetus.
A “stillborn” is an infant born dead, J Wheaton, which is hardly the same as an aborted fetus, while “miscarriage” means “the expulsion of a fetus from the womb before it is able to survive independently,” as in “his wife had a miscarriage.”
What we do not see in either case is the use of the word “deliberate,” as is the case with the term abortion.
So abortion is not at all the same thing as “stillborn” or “miscarriage,” J Wheaton, and you are deluded trying to conflate them in an obvious but amateurish attempt to gaslight us in here.
So I am glad for the opportunity afforded both of us and society at large as well by the venerable Cape Charles Mirror to be able to come in here to help set you on the path to rational thinking and critical analysis, and may your day be a wonderful one, J Wheaton and my goodness, dude, don’t be a stranger and starve your loving fans of your presence!
J Wheaton says @ October 6, 2024 at 10:33 pm:
Maybe you should stand down.
You don’t have a horse in this race.
ME: And that is so very BIDEN/HARRIS of you, J Wheaton, it isn’t funny, and so very DEMOCRAT, as well, which is to say, ANTI-CONSTITUTION and ANTI-SACRED DEMOCRACY, trying to SUPPRESS the voice of an American citizen in here because the voice of that American citizen goes against the DEMOCRAT TRIPE Kamala Harris and Missy are selling about a supposed “CONSTITUTI)ONAL RIGHT” to abortions which doesn’t exist and never has existed in the United States of America!
And of course I have a horse in this race, J Wheaton, at least according to the United States Supreme Court in Dobbs, State Health Officer of the Mississippi Department of Health, et al. v. Jackson’s Women’s Health Organization et al., to wit:
The Constitution does not prohibit the citizens of each State from regulating or prohibiting abortion.
Roe and Casey arrogated that authority.
The Court overrules those decisions and returns that authority to the people and their elected representatives.
end quotes
THAT IS SACRED DEMOCRACY, J Wheaton!
THAT IS MY SACRED RIGHT TO VOTE THAT YOU AND JOE BIDEN AND KAMALA HARRIS AND MISSY ARE TRYING TO STRIP FROM ME BECAUSE I WON’T VOTE THE WAY YOU ALL DEMAND I DO!
WHY DO YOU AND JOE BIDEN AND KAMALA HARRIS HATE SACRED DEMOCRACY, J Wheaton?
The candid world would like to know!
VI. ‘Thou Shalt Not Kill’ is really, pretty simple.
Explain war to me then Stewie You want to bomb the Middle East into nothing but sand. Why is that ok?
Explain the death penalty Stewie
Simple minds, complex world.
You are a real mental midget.
Explain war to me then Stewie You want to bomb the Middle East into nothing but sand. Why is that ok?
Explain the death penalty Stewie
Simple minds, complex world.
War is irrational, J Wheaton, so there is no rational explanation for it.
And the commandment actually is “thou shalt not murder.”
God recorded the Sixth Commandment in Exodus 20:13: “You shall not murder.”
God values human life highly, J Wheaton, and He wants us to value and choose life as well.
As to the death penalty, which does not exist everywhere, again, there is no rational explanation for it.
Goes back to the Biblical injunction “an eye fo9r an eye and a tooth for a tooth.”
Make sure to ask Jehovah those same questions when you stand before Him in Judgement.
I owe you nothing, much less an explanation. Use the mind He gave you to figure it all out.
I have little to no interest in helping with the comprehension of words that you read, or sentences either, for that matter.
Enjoy!
Thou shalt not Murder is the more accurate translation.
No Killing also means no war, executions, Cheese Burgers, ec, ect.
Make sure to ask Jehovah those same questions when you stand before Him in Judgement.

Missy, like I told you, the first rule of HR politics is to stay the hell of my and Don’s business.
How dare you attack me for trying to find a long term, sustainable solution to an issue that you KNOW that I care so deeply about.
And, shame on you for walking out on Joe Biden.
As a teacher of nearly 50 years, TWO of my fundamental class rules are “NO NAME CALLING” and “NO DISRESPECTFUL SPEECH”. Disagree but let the value of your words speak for itself. Remember, reflection on others’ disputed words can often lead to a discovery of more common ground rather than hard feelings. Certainly, there are times when “right” is “right” and “wrong” is “wrong”, but ill feeling just serves to force those who differ to dig in there heels even further. Let’s aim for the common good.
Freedom of speech is unnecessary if the people to whom it is granted do not think for themselves
People naturally assume that the public school system is trying to do what’s best of the children. The fact of the matter is that these institutions have nothing to do with education. They are set up by people who, like all other people, have their own personal agendas. The public school’s true purpose is to put certain messages into the children’s heads so they’ll be more obedient of the government when they get older.
Consider the ‘grade’ system. You start off in first grade, where you’re placed not by academic ability, nor by willingness to learn, but by age. The reason for this is very simple. Most children already think of adults as if they’re their superiors, and now they’ll associate their position in the grade system with superiority. Obviously, that’s nonsense. A kid in the 5th grade may very well have less overall academic ability then a kid in the 2nd grade. Moreover, education isn’t something that can be ranked. The kind of education that tends to be more valuable later on in life is your specialization, not the sheer quantity of raw general knowledge.
Next, consider the way a classroom is structured. The teacher is in charge. The students are to listen to the teacher. This is most peculiar as well. After all, the teacher is a hired employee, who is in fact working for the students. If anything, the teacher should be listening to the concerns of the students, not the other way around. The reason the classroom setting is set up in this way is clear. The students learn at an early age to respect authority figures, so later on, they obey the government.
Having taught in both Virginia and New York from 7th grade through college, in the public school system/community college/ prison system, the vast majority of teachers/professors are caring and dedicated professionals. Typically, teachers willingly and joyfully provide many supplies to their students and spend many hours above and beyond the required amount in order to support the individual development of each student. Along the way, a teacher plays the role of instructor(certainly) and overall advocate for each student, as needed. Each student is challenged to develop his/her unique talents as they are guided to become their best selves. In order to foster this growth, teachers must deeply listen to and respond to each student within a framework that will allow nourishment for the student in intellectual, social, emotional, and physical realms. Freedom to grow within a safe structure is afforded by most teachers/professors. This discussion comes from my background and experience. Thank you for expressing your viewpoint.
Helping one another to lead a dignified life, without having a crippling concern for food, clothing, shelter, job, and safety is what is meant by supporting the common good. This implies that we do not look down upon others in an effort to place them below us. In fact, the only time when we can look down at others is when we are willingly offering them a helping hand–if needed or wanted. Maybe “assisting others” will gradually negate the need to have such marked distinctions between the the classes in our society. Thank you for your thoughts.
terence, WHO created those class distinctions?
‘Twere the politicians, n’est-ce pas?
Other than the politicians, who is always talking about the “middle class?”
And IF there is such a thing as the “middle class,” it would have to logically follow that there also has to be a “lower class,” the plebians, and an “upper class,” the nobles and grandees.
So, terence, who has created class distinctions in this country where ALL citizens are supposedly equal in status in the eyes of the law?
And IF the politicians are creating class distinctions, then how can there be a “common good?”
As for me, I am a firm believer in that axiom “to improve the world, we must first improve ourselves!”
And I apply that to everyone over the age of 18!
IF YOU WANT RESPECT, THEM EARN IT, BECAUSE TO DEMAND RESPECT FROM OTHERS MIGHT EARN YOU A PUNCH IN THE MOUTH IN RETURN AS A SIGN OF THE TRUE RESPECT THE DEMANDER OF IT IS WORTHY OF!
And what exactly is the “COMMON GOOD?”
Other than a trite and empty phrase?
Who decides it?
And let those who differ dig in their heels even further!
Who actually cares if they do?
And we are all over 18, we’re not no longer in grade school or high school, so why, pray tell, should we be freely giving respect to morons, fools, idiots and imbeciles?
RESPECT IS EARNED BY MERIT!
NO MERIT – NO RESPECT!
And if one were to study history, say, the history of Florence, Italy in the time of Machiavelli, one would find that other than how we dress, and except for the names and a few other changes, people today are no different than they were back in the 1300’s:
The city continued in the utmost confusion between the two new parties of commons and plebeians.
But waving a particular detail, the essence of several years miseries may be collected from two speeches.
One is of Louigi Guicciardini, a standard-bearer to the plebeians: “The more we grant,” says he, “the more shameless and arrogant are your demands.”
“Others may flatter you, but we shall always think it our duty to tell you plainly, and without disguise, what we think is for your good.”
“What is there, in the name of God, that you can reasonably ask more of us?”
“You desired to have the captains of the parties deprived of their authority; they have been deprived.”
“You insisted that the old imborsation should be burnt, and a new one made; we consented.”
“You wanted to have those reinstated in the magistracy, that had been admonished; it has been granted.”
“At your intercession we pardoned such as had been guilty of burning houses, and robbing churches, and banished many of our principal citizens at your instigation.”
“To gratify you, the grandees are bridled with new laws, and every thing done that might give you content: where then can we expect your demands will stop or how long will you thus abuse your liberty?”
“Why will ye suffer your own discords to bring the city into slavery?”
“What else can ye expect from your divisions?”
“What, from the goods ye have already taken, or may hereafter take from your fellow citizens, but servitude and poverty?”
“The persons you plunder are those whose fortunes and abilities are the defence of the state, and if they fail, how must it be supported?”
“Whatever is got that way cannot last long and then ye have nothing to look for but remediless famine and distress.”
These expostulations made some impression, and they promised to be good citizens and obedient; but a fresh tumult soon arose, more dangerous than the former.
The greater part of the late robberies, and other mischiefs, had been committed by the rabble and dregs of the people; and those of them who had been the most audacious apprehended, that when the most material differences were composed they should be called to an account for their crimes, and deserted, as it always happens, by those very persons at whose instigation they had committed them.
Besides which, the inferior sort of people had conceived an hatred against the richer citizens and principals of the arts, upon a pretence that they had not been rewarded for their past services in proportion to what they deserved.
“Besides which, the inferior sort of people had conceived an hatred against the richer citizens and principals of the arts, upon a pretence that they had not been rewarded for their past services in proportion to what they deserved.”
This sounds very much like the people in America today who are supporting HARRIS/WALZ.
Thank you for your replies. We actually have agreement on some of your views regarding abortion. I urge you to try to listen to why some people have their differing opinions. So much of life contains more than meets the eye, especially when it comes to individual circumstances. The biggest challenge is to serve the most with the best policies. No one and nothing is perfect in this life and to see things in just one way will often leave some persons neglected. I believe that our national policies and global society should address the plight of the poor and marginalized, especially. I know that not everyone would agree with this nor with how policies which foster this stance should be formed and implemented. But, that is what I believe. There are so many issues, not just abortion, that are of great consequence these days. Hopefully, all of us will work in our best ways to help as many as possible. Thank you, again, for your ideas. Be well!
terence lover says @ October 12, 2024 at 3:21 pm: I urge you to try to listen to why some people have their differing opinions.
ME: ABORTION IS!
IT EXISTS.
IT HAS ALWAYS EXISTED!
And EVERYTHING that needed to be known on the subject from the standpoint of society, since it is a societal issue, has been well known and well documented since the 1950’s.
Saying you are for or against abortion is no different than saying you are for or against cosmic rays!
There are TWO questions and two questions only from a societal standpoint:
SHOULD ABORTIONS BE KEPT OUT OF SIGHT IN THE BACK ALLEYS WITH THE COAT HANGER ABORTIONS AS WAS THE CASE IN THE 1950’s?
OR SHOULD ABORTION BE BROUGHT OUT INTO THE LIGHT OF DAY SO IT CAN BE PROPERLY REGULATED TO PRETECT THE PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH OF THE MOTHER?
This stupid talk of a nationwide ban on abortions being put forth by Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, HILLARY Clinton and the Democrats is stupid because abortion cannot be banned nationally.
It can be criminalized, as it was back in the 1950’s, which simply drives it underground, as was the case back then.
What I think is going on today is quite dishonest – the Democrats making young women in America think and believe that abortion is a painless, problem-free, no-risk panacea to an unwanted pregnancy, which it is not from a mental health standpoint, however one wants to spin it, an abortion is the termination of a life, with consequences to the mental health of the mother, and that it is a constitutional right so that we should be stacking the Congress with pro-abortion people like Missy!
That has serious societal consequences for the future of this nation, stacking the congress with ABORTION ZEALOTS like Missy, for whom human li9fe seems cheap.
There’s where I am on this subject, anyway,
terence, dude, this is REALITY in here!
This is NOT your classroom, nor are we youi8r students seeking gui9dance from yourself as to how we should think, act, and be.
We are adults in here, and so should have adult expectations, not juvenile expectations, about evidence being presented, especially when talking about such a serious subject as abortion, a subject I have been aware of since the 1950’s, when common words about the subject included “back alley abortions” and “coat hanger abortions,” and the need to decriminalize abortion, which is never safe, even if done in a clinic.
You say to us, “Remember, reflection on others’ disputed words can often lead to a discovery of more common ground rather than hard feelings.”
Well, the problem here is that IRRESPONSIBLE FOOLS and IDIOTS like our Missy here, and Kamala Harris, and Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton have no rational or legal basis for their argument that abortion is a CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT in America, and they are incapable of hearing any different.
And consider that this subject of abortion has been discussed at length in here, as to the fallacy of the empty argument put forth by Missy that abortion is a right:

All our Missy can do in reply is screech, and as a teacher of nearly fifty years, I am sure that you would admonish Missy that mindless hysterical screeching on her part, or Kamala’s part, hardly puts forth a cogent (clear, logical, and convincing) argument.
And here, terence, let me take you to a scholarly article on the subject of abortion titled appropriately “The Back Alley Revisited: Sepsis after Attempted Self-Induced Abortion” by Teresa A Saultes, DO, Diane Devita, MD, and Jason D. Heiner, MD, from the November 2009 edition of the Western Journal of Emergency Medicine https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2791734/ , where we have some actual substance on the subject as opposed to Missy’s mindless screeching, to wit:
* Internationally, approximately 42 million pregnancies are terminated each year with an estimated 20 million terminations in unsafe conditions.
* The World Health Organization estimates that 68,000 women die annually due to the complications of unsafe abortions, with sepsis as the primary cause of death.
* Roughly 40% of all unsafe abortions are performed on women ages 15–24, and adolescents account for 19% of all reported legal abortions.
* In 2001 the inflation-adjusted cost of an abortion rose, with the national average ranging from $350–$900 for a first trimester abortion.
* These issues are likely to influence the young women who will eventually seek care by an EP for complications associated with an unsafe abortion.
DISCUSSION
Methods to terminate pregnancy have existed since ancient times.
The Chinese Emperor Shen Nung described the use of mercury for inducing abortion 5000 years ago.
Over 100 methods have been described to induce abortion and can be divided into four categories: oral and injectable medicines, vaginal preparations and cervical dilators, uterine instrumentation, and trauma to the abdomen.
All of these can impose a serious threat to the life and well-being of the mother, with abortions later in the pregnancy associated with greater maternal morbidity and mortality.
Uterine insertion of rigid foreign objects increases the risk of perforation, and intrauterine instillation of soap solutions increases the risk of uterine necrosis, renal failure, central nervous system toxicity, cardiac depression, and respiratory arrest.
Information about potential methods of unsafe abortions are found in the Internet, lay publications, and common cultural knowledge.
For example, a survey of primarily Hispanic women in New York City found that a substantial number were familiar with the use of misoprostol as an abortifacient and 5% had used the method themselves.
