Cape Charles Approves Rezoning Request for Hotel Cape Charles

July 24, 2022 by Wayne Creed 1 Comment

Town Council approved a rezoning request by the Hotel Cape Charles. Cape Charles Ventures, LLC, filed a conditional rezoning map amendment application to rezone 238 Randolph Avenue from Residential-1 to Commercial-1. The request included proffers to limit the commercial activity.

The lot has been in use by the hotel for several years and provides support services such as car and golf cart parking, a bike shelter, as well as housing trash facilities. The lot also has charging stations for the golf carts, as well being the location for the hotel’s propane tank. The lot serves as a rear-entry delivery location. Hotel staff informed the Mirror that no public (or hotel guest) vehicle parking will be permitted on the lot.

The rezoning request was basically to codify the commercial activities that have already been occurring there for the last several years. Hotel owner David Gammino spoke for several (many, a long time, interminable) minutes reiterating just that.

Councilman Grossman was the lone dissenter, arguing against using the lot to park golf carts. In what has come to be seen as the “Cape Charles Way”, Grossman would prefer that the six carts be parked on the streets in order to further exacerbate the horrendous parking situation.

Keep the golf carts off the surface streets when not in use + a charging station a win
