Cape Charles, Va. — The Cape Charles Capital Projects Manager Bob Panek has provided updates on several ongoing infrastructure and safety projects that are critical to the town’s development and public safety.
In a recent update, the Capital Projects Manager informed the Virginia American Water (VAW) project manager about the progress of real property transactions necessary for the KW 1&2 wells pipelines project, which is part of a post-closing agreement. This project is essential for ensuring a reliable water supply for the community.
The manager also communicated with the Virginia Port Authority grant programs director to discuss the planning status for Phase 3 of the Inner Harbor Bulkhead Rehabilitation project. This phase is crucial for the continued enhancement and sustainability of Cape Charles’ waterfront infrastructure.
As part of safety measures, the Capital Projects Manager ordered new Community Trail signs to enforce the prohibition of motorized bikes, scooters, and other motorized vehicles on the trails in Central Park and along Washington and Bay Avenues. This step follows a recent Town Code amendment adopted by the Council. The signs have been delivered to Public Works for installation.
In response to a safety incident where a golf cart broke through the town harbor boardwalk, new “no motorized vehicles” signs were also ordered for the Town Harbor boardwalk and walkways. These signs have been delivered to the Dockmaster for installation, aiming to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Additionally, the Capital Projects Manager drafted a letter for the Mayor’s signature to express gratitude to Coast Guard Sector Virginia. The letter thanks them for providing the cutter Sailfish and the MH-60 Jayhawk rescue helicopter demonstration during Coast Guard Appreciation Day, underscoring the strong relationship between the town and the Coast Guard.
