Cape Charles, VA – The Cape Charles Capital Projects Manager Bob Panek has provided an update on several key initiatives.
One significant development was the submission of the last Aid to Local Ports grant reimbursement request to the Virginia Port Authority. This request, totaling $228.7K, marks the completion of the Inner Harbor Bulkhead Rehabilitation project, a crucial endeavor for the town’s maritime infrastructure.
The Capital Projects Manager reported on progress regarding various ongoing projects. The Community Trail Phase 3 project, a vital endeavor for promoting outdoor recreation and accessibility, was discussed in detail. It was noted that ADA ramps have been installed on the north corners of Peach Street, enhancing accessibility for all residents. Furthermore, plans are in place for the reconstruction of median curbing, scheduled for the upcoming week, with the project slated for completion by mid-April.
The manager also addressed efforts to facilitate utility connections and redevelopment projects within the town. Plats were provided to attorneys for the preparation of necessary easements required to connect wells KW 1 & 2 to the water treatment plant. Moreover, collaboration with a selected developer is underway to advance the documentation required for the Library Redevelopment project, aimed at revitalizing community spaces.
Furthermore, Mr. Panek noted that documents were prepared for the purchase of nutrient credits from the Chesapeake Bay Nutrient Land Trust, a measure required for the Community Trail Phase 3 project. Notably, the cost of phosphorous credits was reported to be $7.8K, significantly lower than the estimated $70K cost for the installation of a Jellyfish filtration system to mitigate stormwater runoff.

Bob Panek got a slap on the wrist for embezzling more than $250,000 from the Pentagon with a couple other people. Who’s to say this isn’t happening yet still with him and the rest of the town council and police department.
