Since May 15 farmers’ markets have been allowed to reopen, according to the governor’s Executive Order. Plans for the Cape Charles market are still being reviewed by the town, and are currently on hold.
Recreation Director Jen Lewis told the Mirror, ” With all going on it is on hold. The application process was severely slowed down due to everything and then the restrictions do not allow for a typical farmers market experience at this time.”
Basic requirements issued by the state:
a. On-site shopping is allowed, as long as physical distancing guidelines are followed. Configure operations to avoid congestion or congregation points.
b. Employees and vendors in customer-facing areas must wear face coverings over their nose and mouth at all times.
c. Vendors must supply hand sanitizer stations or handwashing stations for patrons and employees.
d. A thorough cleaning and disinfection of frequently contacted surfaces must be conducted.
e. If any such business cannot adhere to these requirements, it must close

These rules are ridiculous and arbitrary. Packing into a grocery store is ok, but an open air farmers market is a health risk?
