CAPE CHARLES, Va. — The Town of Cape Charles is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Harbor Maintenance Assistant, a full-time role based at the Cape Charles Harbor. Reporting directly to the Harbor Master, this position plays a vital role in maintaining the harbor’s grounds and facilities while also assisting boaters and supporting daily operations.
The Harbor Maintenance Assistant performs manual and semi-skilled labor, including minor carpentry, plumbing, and electrical repairs. Candidates with experience in the trades and a solid work history in general maintenance are strongly encouraged to apply. Familiarity with boats and marine operations is considered a plus.
In addition to hands-on maintenance duties, the position requires basic administrative skills, such as computer use, answering phones, and providing courteous customer service to boaters and visitors. The successful applicant will also support the Harbor Master and Assistant Harbor Master as needed.
Candidates with OSHA 10 certification or a boater’s license will receive additional consideration.
This is a non-exempt, hourly position eligible for overtime and includes a generous benefits package featuring Virginia Retirement System (VRS) participation, paid holidays, and paid time off. The hiring range is $17 to $18 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
