CAPE CHARLES, Va. — The Cape Charles Harbor saw an influx of activity during the first official weekend of summer, welcoming 52 transient vessels and 46 day boats, according to the weekly report from the Harbor Master’s office.
The harbor reached near capacity as visitors crossed the Chesapeake Bay to enjoy lunch and explore the town. Although the harbor does not take advance reservations for day boats, many boaters contacted the harbor ahead of time to check availability.
“We accommodated all that we possibly could,” the Harbor Master Paula Davis, said, noting the harbor was essentially at a “full house” for the weekend.
Fuel operations also remained steady throughout the week, with the harbor crew pumping over 10,000 gallons of fuel. Ongoing maintenance projects continue, including work on the harbor’s pergolas—one of which is expected to be completed this week—as well as upkeep of the docks, bathhouse, parking lot and lawn.
Electricians repaired several electric pedestals and are scheduled to return to replace faulty breakers.
So far this season, the harbor has confirmed 654 transient reservations totaling 1,937 nights, with an average stay of three nights per vessel.
It would be really nice if the good folks who work at the harbor would do some repair work to the ladders at the boat ramps. They are in rough shape. The rungs are sort of far apart making them hard to go up and down during low tides.
Thanks in advance!
