CAPE CHARLES, Va. — The Town of Cape Charles has hired Debbie Caton as its new Municipal Projects Manager, succeeding longtime project manager Bob Panek as he prepares to retire.
Caton is expected to begin work in mid-September. Panek has agreed to remain with the Town for a short transition period to help bring Caton up to speed on current projects and responsibilities.
Town officials joked that Caton will replace Panek, who “has been trying to retire for five years,” reflecting his extended service to Cape Charles as the Town has worked through a substantial list of municipal and capital improvement projects.
The overlap between Panek and Caton should provide continuity as responsibility for those projects changes hands.
Search Continues for Planning Director
Meanwhile, Cape Charles continues its efforts to fill the Planning Director/Zoning Administrator position.
The Town is working with the Berkley Group to identify qualified candidates for the position. Recruitment will remain open until the position is filled.
The Planning Director/Zoning Administrator plays an important role in the Town’s development and land-use process, including administration of zoning regulations and working with property owners, developers, the Planning Commission and other Town boards.
Main Street Executive Director Finalists Interviewed
The Town also participated in the interview process for a new Main Street Executive Director.
Members of the Main Street Interview Committee recently interviewed two finalists for the position. No final selection was announced as part of the Town’s personnel update.
The three developments come as Cape Charles continues to fill key positions involved in municipal projects, planning and economic and downtown development.
