CAPE CHARLES, Va. — The Cape Charles Historic District Review Board approved two Certificate of Appropriateness applications during a special meeting Tuesday, with conditions placed on both projects.
The board granted approval for renovations to a two-story single-family dwelling at 603 Monroe Avenue. The project includes the addition of an outdoor shower, a rear accessory structure, and a side and rear privacy fence. However, the board stipulated that the outdoor shower must include landscape screening, and the proposed larger accessory structure is contingent on zoning approval.
A second application, submitted for 133 Mason Avenue, sought approval for the installation of a six-foot wall to screen above-ground propane tanks. The board approved the request with conditions requiring the brick used for the wall to match the existing brickwork and the gate material to be wrought iron, similar to a neighboring gate.
The approvals reflect the board’s commitment to preserving the historic integrity of the town while allowing property owners to make necessary modifications.
