Cape Charles, Va. –In a bustling week of community engagement, Cape Charles Library (CCML) welcomed 254 visitors through its doors, circulating a total of 267 items as part of its ongoing mission to foster literacy and learning on the lower Eastern Shore.
Library staff members collaborated with the Assistant Treasurer to review the current budget while planning for the upcoming fiscal year 2025. The circulation development team also took strides to enhance the library’s offerings, ordering 46 new items after reviewing publishing catalogs.
Staff members delved into required reading for the STEM Community of Practice (CoP) meeting, which they later attended along with participating in an American Library Association (ALA) Continuing Education webinar. Additionally, the library staff continued their research on STEM kits for circulation, looking to leverage STEM grant funds to order several educational items.
To enrich summer programming, the library reached out to WHRO regarding Education Vans for upcoming programs, demonstrating a commitment to providing educational opportunities beyond traditional library services.
In celebration of Black History Month and Valentine’s Day, the library staff curated themed book displays, fostering a sense of cultural awareness and community spirit.
The Cape Charles Christian School students made visits to the library. Staff members also provided support to the CCML Board Chair in preparation for an upcoming presentation to the Town Council.
Summer programming remained a focal point, with staff members meeting with counterparts from Kiptopeke State Park to coordinate activities and reaching out to performers to schedule engaging events for patrons of all ages.
In addition to these initiatives, the library continued to provide essential services to patrons, including assisting with printing packets for the Planning Commission and facilitating routine book runs. Visitors received personalized assistance with various library tasks, including checking out and renewing items, accessing computer resources, and seeking book recommendations.
