CAPE CHARLES, Va. — The Cape Charles Police Department has released its law enforcement activity report for July, highlighting a range of services and enforcement actions within the town and surrounding areas.
During July, the department responded to 139 calls for service within Cape Charles, with an additional 7 calls for service outside the town limits, providing crucial assistance to neighboring communities. Law enforcement efforts led to 2 felony arrests and 5 misdemeanor arrests, reflecting the department’s commitment to maintaining public safety.
Traffic enforcement remained a priority, resulting in 52 traffic summonses issued throughout the month. Officers also conducted 34 interactions with golf cart users, underscoring the town’s focus on regulating alternative transportation.
Parking enforcement was active, with 91 parking tickets issued, and officers performed 53 building checks to ensure the security of local properties. Collaborative efforts with other law enforcement agencies included 6 instances of assistance provided to the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office and 1 to the Virginia State Police.
Patrol efforts were comprehensive, with officers dedicating 48 hours to foot patrols and 32 hours to patrolling Bay Creek, a local residential and recreational area.
Notable arrests in July included charges for felony larceny, fraud, criminal trespass, possession of a schedule I drug, petit larceny, public intoxication, and a dangerous dog violation.
In addition to their enforcement duties, Officers Matthews and Yee completed RADAR/LIDAR training, enhancing their skills in traffic speed enforcement.
