CAPE CHARLES, Va. — As summer approaches, the Cape Charles Public Works Department is gearing up for service. The Public Works Manager has released a comprehensive report detailing the latest activities and ongoing preparations:
Beach Preparations:
- Beach equipment is being prepped for service.
- All restrooms are now open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Brush pick-up and grass starting for the season are ongoing.
- A trailer is being assembled for barricade placement to ease the job.
- Beach wheelchairs have been received and assembled.
- Sand on Bay Ave is still being addressed.
- The beach cleaner is awaiting parts to be put into service for the season.
- Mulch for the playground has been ordered and will be delivered on the 18th.
Other Updates Include:
- Tazewell deck is open.
- Serviced and inspected the 2006 F150.
- Inspected the 2023 Ford Explorer.
- Serviced Kubota tractor and mower deck for the season.
- Completed several work orders.
- Cleared sand from the fishing pier and sidewalk.
- Daily debris pick up on the beach.
- Began monthly alley maintenance.
- Filled holes that have formed in the park field.
- Met with Cape Charles Police (CCP) about needs in the park.
- Attended Mainstreet love run meeting.
- Had alignment done on the 2010 Dodge Charger.
- Continued cleaning up the public works yard.
Brush and Yard Debris Pick-ups:
- 12 truckloads of brush taken to be recycled, approximately 2040 cubic yards.
- Normal trash pick-ups of all municipal trash cans; a total of 48 cans serviced daily.
- Dumped, swapped, and repaired residential trash cans.
- 5 new cans delivered.
- Picked up and dumped 15 cans that were missed by the new trash truck driver.
- Swapped 1 can with a broken wheel.
Grass Cutting:
- Civic center.
- Public works storage yard.
- Corner of Old Cape Charles and Bayshore Rd.
- Started cutting Stone Rd (water stopping complete job).
- Fig St corner lot.
- Fig St pump station.
- West Monroe.
- Water tower & east wells.
- Keck well property.
- Bottom of the hump.
The report provides a comprehensive overview of the town’s readiness for the summer season. Residents and visitors alike can look forward to a well-prepared and maintained environment for the upcoming months.
