Cape Charles Seeks Public Input on Railroad and Harbor Master Plan

CAPE CHARLES, Va. — The Town of Cape Charles is inviting residents, business owners, and stakeholders to take part in the first Railroad & Harbor Master Planning Community Engagement Event, a public forum aimed at shaping the future use and development of a key waterfront area.

The event will be held Tuesday, January 13, 2026, with two identical sessions scheduled for 12:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. at the Cape Charles Civic Center, located at 500 Tazewell Avenue. Community members may attend in person or participate virtually through Microsoft Teams.

Town officials say the planning effort will focus on long-term opportunities for the railroad corridor and harbor area, balancing economic development, public access, and community needs. Organizers emphasize that public feedback will play a central role in guiding how the area evolves.

“Your input is wanted concerning the use and development of this area,” the town notes in outreach materials for the event.

In addition to the public workshops, residents who are unable to attend can share their ideas through an interactive online survey, which will remain available following the meeting.

The master planning process is being conducted in partnership with the Berkley Group, a planning and consulting firm working with the town on the project.
