Cape Charles Sets Groundbreaking for New Municipal Building

CAPE CHARLES, Va. — The Town of Cape Charles will hold a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday, Sept. 3, for its new municipal building, marking the formal start of a project intended to provide a permanent home for town government operations.

The ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the corner of Fig and Randolph streets, according to an announcement from the town.

The event is open to the community, with the town inviting residents to attend and celebrate the beginning of construction.

The new municipal building has been in development for more than a year as Cape Charles works to consolidate government operations and replace its previous Town Hall facilities.

Town Council selected the Randolph and Fig streets site as its preferred location in June 2025. Planning subsequently moved into site and building design, with plans calling for the primary public entrance along Randolph Street and a police garage accessible from Fig Street.

The project also represents another step in the town’s transition following the temporary relocation of municipal offices. Finance and Human Resources, along with Planning and Zoning and Building Department operations, have been operating from interim offices at Trinity United Methodist Church since October 2025.

The new facility is expected to bring municipal departments back together in a purpose-built government complex and provide a long-term location for town administrative services.

Thursday’s groundbreaking will provide residents with the first ceremonial milestone as the project moves from planning and design toward construction.
