Cape Charles, VA – As communities across the nation gear up to celebrate the 64th Annual National Public Works Week from May 19 to May 25, 2024, the spotlight shines on the indispensable role played by public works professionals in advancing the quality of life for all citizens.
Under the theme “Advancing Quality of Life for All,” this year’s National Public Works Week emphasizes the crucial contributions made by public works infrastructure, facilities, and services to sustainable and resilient communities. From maintaining roads and bridges to managing water and waste systems, public works crews are at the heart of ensuring public health, safety, and well-being.
The American Public Works Association spearheads efforts to raise awareness about public works issues and to recognize the dedication of public works employees. Through events like National Public Works Week, the association aims to instill confidence in these professionals who work tirelessly to improve the lives of present and future generations.
In Cape Charles, the Town Council is set to adopt a proclamation during their May 16, 2024 Regular Meeting, officially designating the week of May 19-25, 2024, as National Public Works Week. The proclamation urges citizens to join representatives of the American Public Works Association and government agencies in paying tribute to public works professionals for their substantial contributions to national health, safety, and quality of life.
Among those being recognized by the Cape Charles community are Manager Ralph Bowen, Lead Maintenance Specialist Rick Finley, and team members Nick Beach, Joe Gittinger, Markeen Hines, James Jones, and the newest addition to the team, Nathan Ruff.
As National Public Works Week approaches, communities are encouraged to celebrate and express gratitude for the dedication and hard work of public works professionals who play a vital role in shaping the communities we call home.
