CAPE CHARLES, Va. — The Cape Charles Town Council has approved a $250,000 budget amendment to assist the Cape Charles Volunteer Fire Company in purchasing a new fire engine, expediting a process initially expected to take several years.
During the council’s regular meeting on September 19, 2024, members reached a consensus to move forward with the allocation of funds after the Fire Company unexpectedly had the opportunity to secure a new engine on short notice. The funds, which were committed as part of the Fiscal Year 2025 budget development process, were originally planned as matching funds but had not been included in the budget because the engine procurement was expected to take longer.
The amendment ensures that the necessary funding will be available immediately to help the Fire Company meet this opportunity.
