After complaints from citizen Ms. Dianne Davis addressed Council regarding putting the installation of signage to warn motorists of children and citizens with scooters, wheelchairs, walking canes, etc. travelling on the Town’s streets.
Ms. Davis noted that this was especially true along Stone Road by the
Myrtle Landing Apartments where many of the residents use their scooters and motorized wheelchairs to go to Rayfield’s Pharmacy and the Peach Street convenience store, as well as other areas in Town.
Town Clerk Libby Hume and Community Relations Manager Jen Lewis researched VDOT’s regulations and met with Ms. Davis to discuss the various areas where warning signage was needed.
Town’s response is Resolution 20201217, which was drafted and reviewed by Ms. Davis who had no changes.

Signs signs everywhere signs. Anybody heard me sing that before ? I’m waiting for the council to approve making signs that tell us to read the signs. Elaine Luria will get bipartisan approval and Jay C. Ford will call for closing the sign shop for making a sign he didn’t like. But seriously folks, the amount of signs is absurd. Approach town from the highway and the signs are a major distraction to proper driving technique. It’s a sea of signs that can easily catch the eye, drivers can get lost in, and cause someone to hit something the sign is telling us to make sure we don’t hit. YIKES ! Just when does the irony create overload ? Not to mention they are unsightly. Can signs be declared part of the historic district and be removed if they are unsightly, too inexpensive and not made of wood ? Silliness makes me silly.
