CAPE CHARLES, Va. — The Cape Charles Town Council will convene for an Executive Session on August 21, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. at the Cape Charles Civic Center. The meeting will begin with a roll call and the establishment of a quorum, followed by a motion to enter a closed session.
The closed session, held under Code of Virginia § 2.2-3711-A, Paragraph 1, will focus on the discussion, consideration, and interviews of prospective candidates for the position of Town Treasurer. This session will allow the Council to deliberate on issues related to employment, including assignment, appointment, promotion, performance, and other personnel matters.
Members of the public will be requested to leave the room during the closed session. After the Council concludes its discussions, there will be a motion to return to open session, at which point the public will be invited back into the room.
Upon returning to open session, the Council members will certify that to the best of their knowledge, only public business matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements were discussed in the closed session. This will be followed by a roll call vote.
The final item on the agenda will be the appointment of the new Treasurer, marking the conclusion of the executive session.

You have to love that phrase “to the best of their knowledge.”
Opens up a loophole as big as all outdoors, because it forgives them having to actually have any knowledge of anything at all.
“To the best of my knowledge, we only discussed public business matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements in the closed session, but I don’t really have any knowledge of what public business is actually lawfully exempted, so hey, maybe we did slip in some other stuff, but I have no knowledge of it!”
