CAPE CHARLES, Va. — Cape Charles Town Manager provided updates this week on a range of town projects and meetings as the town continues to move forward with infrastructure upgrades, facility relocations, and long-term planning.
The manager held multiple planning sessions with Special Projects Manager Bob Panek, focusing on harbor operations, a harbor decking replacement bid, the extension of the workforce housing request for proposals, Mason Avenue electrical upgrades, a water easement for the Keck well project, and preparations for relocating town offices into the Trinity facility.
Human resources and staffing were also a focus. The manager met with HR Director Jodi Outland to review applications for open positions and to address personnel matters, and with Police Chief Jim Pruitt to review police operations. Meetings with Zoning Administrator Katie Nuniez centered on the Town Hall relocation, which involves IT and security upgrades, renovations, and moving logistics, as well as appraisal questions on the Railroad property. The town expects the appraisal report by mid-September, and negotiations with the Berkley Group on revised work orders are expected to return to Town Council for review.
Public Works Director Ralph Bowen reported that more than 50 boards have been replaced at the fishing pier and that discussions will begin next week on improvements to the Pavilion, Tazewell Overlook, public parking areas, and the Civic Center. The town is also continuing research on long-term solutions for public restroom facilities.
Additionally, the manager met with department heads for an IT budget planning session to track needs related to the temporary Town Hall relocation.
