Cherrystone Campground to get a Name Change

December 5, 2021 by Wayne Creed 13 Comments

During the summer months, one of the Shore’s biggest towns is not really a town. It’s Cherrystone Family Camping Resort. However, Cherrystone is no more.

As part of a new branding effort, the campground will be changing its name to Sun Outdoors Cape Charles.

A letter was sent out to many of the former guests of the campground explaining the name change. General Manager Kathy Parks noted that Cherrystone Family Camping Resort will be aligned with “the elevated brand standards of Sun Outdoors, which includes a new name for the resort.”

The Sun Outdoors brand has resorts, campgrounds, and getaway retreats in 25 states.

Parks said that the campground will continue to offer all the fun, amenities, and events it always has, but will gradually incorporate new aspects of the Sun Outdoors brand.

New signage should begin to appear in the next few weeks.

Sun Outdoors Cape Charles ??? GTFOH!

That is the absolute most ignorant name for anything, much less a campground. Where the hell would the sun be, but outdoors.

You people are real mental midgets. Bless your little hearts.

Scotiagirl has visited dozens of campgrounds up and down the eastern US and Canada. Not one of them “nickel and dimed” guests to the extremes that Cherry stone did! They charged outrageous prices for everything from ice cream cones to parking for “extra” short term visitors. One only hopes that the new owners will bring their prices down to a reasonable level.

Can anyone tell me what happened to the old Cherrystone Campground that used to be, I thought, in Cheriton?

It is in Cheriton. The person who believes it will bring in more tax dollars, is delusional. Cheriton does NOT pay an6thing to Cape Charles. These new folks are only trying to piggy-back on the Tourism of Cape Charles.

What a bunch of bullsh1t. Who allowed all this to happen to The Shore over the last 20 years? Did the locals loose their voices? Did political correctness slide in like a theif in the night? This type of stuff would never have been allowed in the 80’s.

It will be really hard to turn all this around again. I bet inside the locals are sickened by what has been done to Northampton County. The CBBT was the worst thing that ever came to The Shore, thanks Lucius.

Not in Cheriton. Not in town limits of either town, but closer to Cape Charles as the crow flies.

It hasn’t been very good since I was a kid. In the 80s and early 90s. Some where along the way they put so many crab pots out in the water and changed the beach. Fishing and crabbing really dropped off. Plus all of the seaweed is gone now. I loved going there with my family every year. The rules turned it into like the government was running the place. Now we go once every 5 to 10 years. It’s costs as much as a hotel and is no where close to feeling like your out in nature. That’s the way it goes sometimes. I have found a lot of places have went corporate and ruined the camping experience with my family. So the name change doesn’t bother me one bit because Cherry Stone has been Cherry Stone for years. God Bless and be safe.
